Brewery tank cleaning to the power of Pronck

Love of beer is understandably the driving force behind many a craft brewery, and that is certainly how Brouwerij Pronck got started. But to deliver outstanding beer batch after batch, month after month, passion for the amber fluid is alone not enough; all aspects of the operation need to evolve in sync. At Pronck, keeping the tanks in tip-top condition is mission-critical, therefore upping their tank cleaning game was on the agenda early on.   In only a few short years, the Dutch craft brewery Pronck has gained a devoted following and is already nothing short of a Leiden institution. And such is the fans’ thirst for Pronck beer that demand keeps outstripping supply, necessitating a constant investment in additional brewing capacity to stay ahead of the curve; Pronck currently brews over 5,000 litres per month, and growing rapidly. Quality of their finished beer is the foremost priority at Pronck and will never be sacrificed in pursuit of volume growth only; therefore, to keep the operations running smoothly while also upholding the strictest quality standards, the growth and evolution of the brewery operation inevitably soon reached a point where the tank cleaning side needed to be raised to the next level. The four 750-litre and two...read more

Paradigm Shift in Tank Cleaning at JK Paper

Manually cleaning the numerous tanks and other vessels of a pulp & paper plant is not only hard work, it is also time-consuming, inefficient and potentially dangerous. To bring this aspect of their operation up to modern standards and help pave the way to further improvements, JK Paper have recently moved to an automated tank cleaning system, with excellent results. JK Paper, a leading Indian pulp and paper producer, manufactures a range of fine and specialty papers and packaging boards at their two large production sites in India, for sale not just into the domestic Indian market but also for exporting to dozens of countries around the world. Their ‘CPM’ unit near Surat in the state of Gujarat has a substantial production capacity amounting to over 50,000 tonnes per annum of paper and nearly twice that of packaging board. Yet, despite the size of the operation, until recently tank cleaning CPM plant was done manually. Needless to say, this required a lot of hard, physical labour, and resulted in extensive down-time for the busy production plant. Sending teams of cleaning operatives into the tanks was also not without health and safety hazards. Therefore, to increase operational efficiency, improve worker safety,...read more

Bio 25 rotary jet head celebrates 10 years

A decade may have passed since the birth of the iconic Bio 25 rotary jet head which forever changed the world of tank cleaning, but far from resting on its laurels this legend continues from strength to strength.     Pioneering in its design and engineering when first launched, the Bio 25 was the only rotary jet head (RJH) of its kind to have a self-cleaning capability whereby the entire outside of the machine including the downpipe was rinsed with each rotation of the unit, to pick just one of its many innovative features. It also offered extremely efficient cleaning action, resulting in much reduced water and detergent consumption as compared with the competitors — something that has become all the more important in this environmentally conscious age, as we all seek to reduce our use of water, energy and resources. What wasn’t perhaps immediately obvious at the start, but has certainly become a hallmark of the Bio 25 in the intervening years, is its unparalleled track record of reliability and low maintenance requirements. Engineered from the ground up to be highly robust and dependable even in the most demanding conditions — thanks in large part to its patented gear...read more

Star(-ch) Quality Cleaning

Keeping their starch manufacturing and storage facilities ‘clean as a whistle’ is nothing short of mission-critical for General Starch — except that, given the nature of starch and the complexities of producing it, actually achieving that on an on-going basis across the entire operation can sometimes be difficult. But fortunately, where there is a tank cleaning challenge, there is also a solution from Scanjet Systems more than capable of meeting it.   General Starch Limited (GSL) is a leading manufacturer of modified tapioca starch based in Thailand. The company has been in operation for quarter of a century, and has in that time developed and employed increasingly advanced production technologies and processes, providing for a growing output of high quality starch products to demanding customers across the food, pharmaceutical and other sectors not just within the South East Asian markets but also increasingly globally. Until recently, the cleaning of tanks and other vessels at GSL was done manually by hand. This required a lot of hard, physical labour, and resulted in extensive down-time for the busy production plant. Therefore, to increase operational efficiency, improve worker safety, and guarantee consistently high standard of hygiene, an automated cleaning system was required. In...read more

Tanks Sparkle at Ringwood Brewery

When it came time to replace the old tank cleaning jets at Ringwood, the search was on for something that did the job better, or required less maintenance — and ideally both. Having now installed tank cleaning equipment from Scanjet Systems, the tanks truly shine like never before.   Ringwood Brewery, located in Hampshire, on the beautiful south coast of England, just on the edge of the New Forest National Park, has been a pioneer of the British craft brewery movement ever since its beginnings in the 1970s, although brewing heritage on the Ringwood site goes back much further than that. Ringwood brews a range of excellent ales, and (almost!) as important as the quality of the end product is the cleanliness and smooth operation of their brewing equipment. But due to the unique design of some of their tanks, maintaining the required standards was often hard work. Especially the wort-boiling tank — aka. the ‘copper’ — was subject to wort deposits sticking to the top section of the tank, which, if allowed to accumulate, could be a real challenge to clear. Also, the internal calandria (heating coils) were particularly tricky to keep clean, as they were prone to the...read more

Reym Recognised for Non-man-entry Tank Cleaning Solution Using Scanjet Nozzles

The Dutch industrial services company Reym has been awarded the ‘CASOS Golden Best Practice’ prize for their tank cleaning solution, which significantly reduces the need for cleaning personnel to enter an oil storage tank to carry out cleaning. The CASOS (Contractor Alliance for Safety On Shell operations) Best Practice award annually recognises improvements in operational safety and working environment. Now this prestigious award has gone to Reym BV, an industrial cleaning and waste management specialist, part of Renewi Plc, whose new non-man-entry tank cleaning system cuts down the need for tank entry by massive 85%, thereby significantly improving the health and safety of the cleaning staff as well as simplifying operations and logistics. Cleaning crude oil storage tanks is a challenging task in many ways, not least because of the various risks faced by workers having to enter the hazardous environment inside a large oil tank. Using tank cleaning nozzles from Scanjet Systems, a leading supplier of specialised tank cleaning technologies, the internal cleaning of the tank is achieved by automated machinery instead of staff performing arduous manual work. At the heart of the Reym system are Scanjet SC 60A tank cleaning nozzles, with unique features that make this model...read more
